Emotion Maps
May 30, 2006
I can't believe this hasn't received more attention, but Corante's Brain Waves recently picked up on research being done by Christian Nold, a London-based artist who is combining a GPS receiver with a Galvanic Skin Response sensor to get a picture of the emotional map of a location. The results--which he calls Biomapping-- are stunning, and the implications could be interesting as well for marketers, urban planners and surely others interested in how people respond emotionally to the landscape around themselves -- from excitement in a commercial district to anxiety at a busy crossing to tranquility in a country setting. The map here is of London's tony Kensington borough, full of money, advertising and luxury. Find out more from the Observer article from April.
